Advent Day 1: God is The Giver

James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father…”
During the weeks leading up to Christmas we celebrate Advent. It is a season of waiting for something exciting to happen. A season of celebrating and remembering what God has given us and why He gives.
What do we give at Christmas? Gifts!
Do you know why we give each other gifts? We give because we love.
God loves you. God is our Creator and He is the ultimate giver. We give gifts because we love but the gifts can also be a way to remind each other of all that God has given us and the great love God has for us.
Do you know that you can ask God for things everyday just like you ask your mom and dad? God tells us to ask Him when we want something and to ask Him when we need something. He tells us to ask and He promises He will give.
If you ask your mom or dad for ice cream cones at breakfast, lunch and dinner will they give it to you for all three meals? No!
But, your mom and dad want you to ask because they want to know what you like and what you want. They don’t tell you “No, ice cream” because they are mean. They understand that ice cream three times a day would make your belly hurt and make you sick, so they tell you “no”.  They tell you “no” because they love you and they want what is best for you. Just like your mom and dad want to give you good things so does God. He will not always give you exactly what you ask for but He promises to give us what we need!
Every good thing we have is from God. God has given you life! He gives families and friends, food, love, protection, joy and oh so many more!
God also wants us to share our gifts with others. We were created to make God feel really special and to show people how special God’s love is, to glorify Him. These gifts are tools you can use to glorify Him. How can you share God’s gifts with your brother or sister or friend? Can you be generous and give someone who is hungry part of your snack? Can you be patient with your brother or sister when they take your favorite toy? When your mom is cleaning the kitchen can you help her by carrying the plates to the sink? God wants us to share and give to others who are in need. When we give to others we have to trust that God will provide for us and take care of us. When God gives to us we are able to see His goodness and we share that goodness with others when we give to them.
Advent is a time to celebrate; to celebrate that God loves you, that God created you and promises to take care of you! So, during Advent dance and shout in celebration and excitement because God is the giver of life!
